Silver Creek Save A Lot Saved By fire Crews
SILVER CREEK — Friday morning, Save a Lot in Silver Creek had more important things to worry about than saving shoppers a few bucks. It was Save a Lot that needed to be saved, as a fire broke out in the attic area of the building.
Thanks to six different fire departments, the business was spared. The Forestville Fire Department described the efforts as “great, hard, aggressive work by everyone.”
Multiple crews were dispatched at approximately 5:48 a.m., Friday, to a commercial building structure fire at the Save a Lot food store, located right at the entrance to the Routes 5 and 20 corridor on the outskirts of Silver Creek. When crews arrived on the scene, a working fire was observed in the ceiling.
Sunset Bay was the first of the departments on the scene. The crew entered the attic area of the store and discovered a fire around the heating unit. Sunset Bay extinguished the fire as the other responding crews assisted with overhaul.
Among the crews battling the blaze to save Save a Lot were Silver Creek, Sunset Bay, Forestville, Hanover Center, Evans Center Fire (FAST) and Angola.
Once the fire was extinguished, Chautauqua County fire investigators were called to the scene. An investigation determined that the fire originated in the ceiling of the entrance due to heaters being in close proximity to building material. The fire did not damage the interior of the store.
