Plenty To Do At Cassadaga Winter Festival
CASSADAGA — Get ready to celebrate winter.
The Citizens for a Better Cassadaga will be holding the community’s Winter Festival on Friday to Sunday. There will be something for everyone.
FRIDAY
To kick off the festival, The Untouchables will be performing at the American Legion Post 1280, located at 228 Maple Ave., from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Dance the night away. There is no cost to enter. Dupers will be there selling food. Legion pizza will also be available. This is sponsored by the Legion.
SATURDAY
Saturday morning is the Frozen 50K. This will begin at 8 a.m. Participants can walk or run 1 lap (5K) or all the way up to 10 laps (50K)! Race day registration will be available at the Cassadaga Fire Hall (22 Mill St.) for $35 or pay $25 by registering early. All proceeds go to Chautauqua County Fire Police. Registration/check in begins at 7 a.m. Go to www.coachmarkwilson.com for full details. This event is sponsored by Wilson Endurance Sports.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be a vendor show at the American Legion, which is sponsoring the event. A light lunch will be available.
From noon to 2 p.m. will be fun on the beach, located on Park Avenue. There will be fire pits, S’mores, tether ball and street hockey, along with prize drawings. There will also be an ice sculpture carving taking place. Chili and hot chocolate will be provided by Park Church. 3 Lakes Cafe will be selling coffee as well.
At 1 p.m. will be the annual Ice SCREAM Polar Dip. Cost is $20 and there will be T-shirts for dippers. Special this year, participants will be “Dipping for Dennis” in honor of the late Dennis Collins, who was active in the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga, and the community as a whole. Proceeds will be going to the Cassadaga Library. This is sponsored by the Red House.
From 2-4 p.m. will be “Tonya and her goats” at the Cassadaga Library, located at 18 Maple Ave. There will be live goats, stories, treats and a craft at the library, which is sponsoring this event. This is for both children and adults.
From 5-7 p.m. will be the “Soup-er Bowl” at Park Church, located at 25 Maple Ave. This is like a chili cook-off, only involving soup. Bring your best homemade soup and see if you can win a prize. No cost to enter or attend. Register for the contest by calling 716-962-2265. If you don’t have a soup recipe, bring a hungry appetite and try all the soups and help judge which is the best. Park Church, which is sponsoring the event, will provide salad and bread as well.
SUNDAY
On Sunday at 1 p.m. will be a corn hole tournament at the American Legion Post 1280, which is sponsoring the event. Registration begins at noon.
From 1-3 p.m. there will be sledding at the Cassadaga Country Club, 55 Frisbee Road, from 1 to 3 p.m. Bring your own sleds and brave the big hill. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available. This is sponsored by the Cassadaga Country Club and the Cassadaga Library.
At 3 p.m. will be cross country skiing/snowshoeing at Cassadaga Lakes Nature Park on 8115 – 8119 Route 60. Meet there at 2:50 p.m. There will be a guided tour beginning at 3 p.m. Attendees must provide their own skis/snowshoes. Parking is limited, so carpool if possible. This event is sponsored by Cassadaga Lakes Association and Chautauqua County Watershed Conservancy.
