Winning Wolves: County Honors Clymer/Sherman/Panama Football Team
MAYVILLE — The Clymer/Sherman/Panama Wolfpack football team was honored during Wednesday night’s Chautauqua County Legislature meeting for its victory in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D championship game.
The Wolfpack secured their title with a 46-7 win over Burke Catholic on the campus of Syracuse University, capping an 11-2 season. The team, which ranked No. 1 in the state throughout the postseason, claimed its third state championship in seven years, having previously won back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019.
County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr., along with Legislators Travis B. Heiser and Martin J. Proctor, presented a formal Letter of Commendation to the team, highlighting its accomplishments.
The Wolfpack has produced 18 New York State Sportswriters Association first-team all-state selections since 2017. The list includes five Class D Players of the Year: Derek Ecklund (2018), Cameron Barmore and Gerrit Hinsdale (2019), and Tate Catanese and Bryce Hinsdale (2024).
The evening also recognized the contributions of head coach Ty Harper, who announced his retirement after leading the Wolfpack for more than a decade. Harper, the first head coach of the combined program, guided the team to a 78-24 record, including an undefeated season in 2018 and three NYSPHSAA Class D championships.
