Council Acknowledges Lakeview Cemetery Marker
The newest historical marker in Jamestown has been installed at Lakeview Cemetery.
The marker was discussed recently during Monday’s voting session of the City Council. Councilman Bill Reynolds, R-Ward 5, spoke briefly on the Fenton History Center’s holiday season, also acknowledging another historical marker that has been placed in the city, the city’s 80th.
“The city historian did place marker number 80 at Lakeview Cemetery, commemorating the 1859 establishment of Lakeview Cemetery,” Reynolds said. “So that was quite an exciting time. … We were able to learn a little bit of the history from the notes and paperwork from years ago of Lakeview Cemetery.”
Looking at some more recent history, Council President Tony Dolce, R-Ward 2, recognized the council’s work throughout 2024, including some of the challenges they faced. He thanked the council for everything they have worked on throughout the year, saying these challenges were more than just preparing the 2025 budget.
“All of the years, there are always challenges and difficulties of any given fiscal year for us, and I just wanted to thank this council for their diligent work in the budget and some of the other major issues we faced throughout 2024,” Dolce said. “I know as we enter 2025 there will be more challenges, some we know about and some we don’t. There’s always going to be budgetary challenges and financial challenges moving forward into 2025 and obviously there are things that can come up and surprise us that we don’t know about. I know these people will work hard and have the community’s best interest at hand.”
Dolce said he believed the council will be able to work through any surprises or challenges that they may have. He said he looks forward to another year in the city of Jamestown.
