City Accepts Increased State Road Work Money

The city of Jamestown is set to see an increase in some areas of its Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program funds in 2023 city budget.

A resolution was discussed and approved during Monday’s voting session, which asked for the city’s comptroller to be allowed to make an amendment to the 2023 General Fund Budget, to recognize additional funds in the CHIPS, Pave New York, State Touring Route, Pave Our Potholes and Extreme Winter Recovery funding. The increases included: Appropriations CHIPS Capital Outlay, $1,019,630.19, Estimated Revenues State Highway Aid, $1,019,630.19 and Appropriations CHIPS Capital Outlay, $500,310.93.

“This generous money from the state is going to be very welcome and the Public Works Department does a nice job working in conjunction with contractors that will be using this money,” Councilman Randy Daversa, R-At Large and chair of the public works committee, said. “Our roads are generally in nice shape. Right now it’s pothole season, as everybody knows, but it will be welcoming money to work on.”

Daversa also addressed an upgrade being done to Second Street, or state route 394 by the State Department of Transportation. He said that is taking a little extra time, but asked that people bear with the Public Works Department.

“We know it’s not a pleasant ride sometimes, but when they’re done it’s going to be another welcoming sight,” Daversa said. “Between Second Street and this money, we hope for some nice, smooth roads.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
