WESTFIELD — Westfield Academy and Central Schools District superintendent has announced his resignation to take a job at another district.

In his official resignation letter sent to the school community, Michael Cipolla wrote, “It is with a deep sense of gratitude and reflection that I write to share my decision to resign as superintendent of schools. I have accepted an opportunity to serve as superintendent in another district.”

Cipolla has served in education for more than 20 years and has held various positions with different educational districts along the way. However, he has held his current position since 2020.

A Nov. 27, 2019 article by The Post-Journal said Cippola came to WACS from the Randolph Central School district where he served as the director of instruction and operations for two years. Prior to starting his position at Randolph, Cipolla served at the Southwestern Central School district as a school counselor, assistant principal and principal for eight years.

According to Cipolla’s LinkedIn profile he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), in 1999; a Master of Science in Education (MSED), School and Community Counseling School and Community Counseling in 2002 and a Master of Education (MSED), Educational Administration and Supervision, in 2006.

Calls to the school and board members were not immediately returned. “The Board of Education is dedicated to ensuring stability and continuity in leadership,” he wrote. “They will soon appoint an interim superintendent who will guide our district through the remainder of the school year while beginning the process of selecting the next permanent leader.”
