Mallory and John Coan had both been involved in agriculture for much of their lives, and five years ago, they decided to transform their Frewsburg farm into a Christmas tree farm.

Five years ago, the tree farm was started with mentorship from a seasoned tree farmer, Paul Sanford of Sanford Tree Farm in Youngsville, Pa.

While Coan’s trees are still maturing, they receive some of their pre-cut selection from Sanford’s. Every Christmas tree offered at Coan’s is a local tree. For the first year, they can offer their customers a limited amount of choose-and-cut trees.

Coan’s is not just a place to get a Christmas tree; they offer an authentic Christmas experience that feels like a step back in time. Christmas music is playing, kettle corn is popping, and the farm feels like Christmas.

The Country Store & Gift Shop on-site also offers many gift items, including handmade local jewelry, holiday ornaments, decor, and neat one-of-a-kind items for the hard-to-shop-for.

The store also offers a wide variety of items with many local options. Honey, dips, baked goods, and more make great additions to holiday meals. The shop has over 20 local vendors. Korn Kings offers kettle corn, burgers, hot dogs, chili, nachos, hot cocoa, and coffee on-site.

“We wanted to get back to what Christmas is about. Slowing down and enjoying the day with family while getting into the holiday spirit,” said Mallory Coan.

John Coan added, “Bringing Christmas back to reality, at so many big corporate stores, the trees are overpriced and have been cut for sometimes as long as a couple of months. People are on a budget, and we understand that.”

A light show runs through Jan. 1 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. every evening. The light show is free of charge, and has music that can be heard on car radios. For safety reasons, Coan’s officials ask that those viewing the light show remain in their vehicle.

Coan’s Dusty Acres Tree Farm is located at 1199 Frew Run Road in Frewsburg. More information can be found on their Facebook page at Coan’s Dusty Acres.
