Talent And Hope: JHS Students Qualify For NYSSMA Festivals
Seven Jamestown High School students have been selected to perform among New York state’s most talented student musicians.
Olivia Beach, Gina Delgado, Rya Giuffre, Hayden Langford, Brighton Lumia, Isaac Margarito, and Eddie Meyer will represent JHS at the New York State School Music Association’s Zone 1 Area All-State Festival at SUNY Fredonia on Nov. 21 and 22.
Zone 1 encompasses Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties. Delago and Lumia will participate in the Senior High Symphonia Orchestra, while Margarito will perform in the Senior High Band. Beach and Meyer will sing in the Senior High Treble Chorus, while Giuffre and Langford will sing in the Senior High Mixed Chorus.
Lumia and Meyer will also represent JHS at the NYSSMA Winter Conference All-State festival from Dec. 5 to 8 in Rochester, where they will perform in the Symphonic Band and Mixed Chorus, respectively, with students from all 15 zones across New York state.
To qualify for these festivals, the students prepare a NYSSMA Level VI solo which must be selected from repertoire lists in the current manual. Typically, more than 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across the state of New York prepare for All-State evaluations in the hope of being selected.
