‘Light Up The Point’ Celebration Set

During the second annual Light the Point event, held Dec. 2, 2023, in Bemus Point, several golf carts were decked out in full Christmas regalia as part of the parade portion of the programmatic offerings.

BEMUS POINT –The Village of Bemus Point, nestled on the shores of Chautauqua Lake, is set to become a Christmas-themed consortium for the region.

The village will host its third annual ‘Ligh Up the Point” celebration day, Nov. 30, starting at 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Additionally, Bemus Point officials are reporting that throughout the day, businesses and residents will be adorning their storefronts and residences with lights and decorations- enhancing the festive atmosphere. Local businesses will also host special activities during the event.

While the event is in its third incarnation, Bemus Point officials look forward to it each year.

“This is a family-friendly, low-key, event,” said Maureen Stahley, a village trustee. “This is our third year conducting this event, – it’s wonderful to see the community come together. All are welcomed to come and enjoy Christmas with our community.”

Between 200 – 300 people watched ‘Santa Claus’ light the Village of Bemus Point’s official Christmas tree during the village’s second annual Light Up the Point event, held Dec. 2, 2023, in the village.

While the event hosts a plethora of activities for attendees to enjoy, the visit by the ‘big man in red,” Santa Claus seems to be the apex for the day.

“Last year we had people come and go all day long,” said Stahley. “However, we had three or four hundred people at the Christmas tree lighting with Santa Claus – plus Santa is brought in on a firetruck, which the kids seem to really like.”

In a post on The Light Up the Point Facebook page reads, “Light Up the Point” captures the essence of the holiday season, and everyone is invited to participate. The Bemus Point community eagerly welcomes residents and visitors for a day filled with holiday cheer and community spirit.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Bemus Point has 312 at the time of the 2020 census.

“We’re a small, close knit community,” said Stahley. “But we love to share our community with our neighbors and friends. All are welcome to our events. The more the merrier.”
