LAKEWOOD — To help first responders in Lakewood, a Fall Festival will be held Saturday.

The festival is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Chautauqua Avenue near Richard O. Hartley Park.

Kim Carlson, a volunteer who owns Pea Pod and Juniper flower shop, said she and others involved wanted to do something for the community.

“This is the first year of this event I believe, and several of us merchants were talking about doing something so we decided to put on a nice festival for the community,” Carlson said. “We hope it is well liked and something we can add on to every year.”

The Lakewood Fall Festival will offer a variety of activities including face painting, music, food, shopping, pumpkin painting, a K-9 dog demonstration, and other safety activities such as allowing children to view fire trucks. Carlson said the day will also be during fire safety week, so fire safety activities will be held at the park. Free children’s books will be available to the first 80 children, and tote bags are available for a $2 minimum donation to Lakewood First Responders.

Carlson added that people should come out to the festival to experience Lakewood.

“Lakewood has become a wonderful place to shop, and eat at,” Carlson said. “There’s a new playground for the kids. It’s a wonderful place to spend time, and it’s right on the shores of Chautauqua Lake.”

Carlson said, the festival is important for the local community and that camaraderie in the village is evident, and that it is a fun and pleasant place to come and check out the stores and other vendors involved in the festival.

There will be no fees for parking or admittance, though Carlson said, people will be asked for a donation.

“We want to make sure we recognize them, and that we never lose sight of the things they do for the safety of our families and community,” Carlson said of the first responders. “This is a rain or shine event, so come visit the local merchants, shop, eat at a restaurant or get some coffee. Put on your walking shoes and come visit.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
