Council To Vote On City Hall Roof Project
Long-discussed roof repairs to the City Hall are on the agenda for approval at tonight’s City Council meeting.
The council’s monthly voting session begins at 7:30 p.m. today in the council’s chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
Among the items up for approval are three resolutions dealing with the City Hall roof totaling $945,950. Jamestown Roofing Inc. was the low bidder for the roof replacement project. Work is expected to be finished by November at a cost of $905,000. The project will be paid for with American Rescue Plan Act funding.
Related to the roof project is work on a roof parapet that will cost an additional $13,150 more than the original $25,000 originally budgeted by the council. Contractors looking into the roof replacement project found that precast concrete panels on the parapet show signs of movement and water infiltration. The issues need to be fixed before the roof is replaced. The additional $13,150 will also be paid with ARPA funding.
The final piece of the roof replacement project is approval of a $27,300 contract with Greenam-Peterson Inc. to coordinate the project. That money will also be paid for with ARPA funding. Greenman-Peterson will review project submissions, materials and material certification, visit the site, accept work and punch lists and review pay applications. The company will also be in charge of closing out the project when the work is finished.
Other items on the agenda include things discussed during the council’s work session earlier this month. They include:
– authorizing the Mayor and Police Chief to participate in the state GIVE program from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, and to accept state grant funding totaling $261,315.
– lifting the hiring freeze to hire a part-time GIVE coordinator assistant in the Jamestown Police Department. The position is funded by the GIVE XI award.
– purchasing 2025 Chevy Trailblazer costing 25,976.06 for the Jamestown Police Department. Money for the vehicle was included in the 2024 city budget.
– authorizing recruit firefighters Sarah Hanlon, Chris Szatkowski, Nolan Emerson, Lucas Willink, Matthew Golombek, Michael Scalise, Walker Perry, and Colin Melquist to attend the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control – Recruit Firefighter Training Program from July 29 through Nov. 8.
– Two new ordinances are also up for approval. A rental inspection program has been discussed periodically by the council since earlier this year while a mobile food truck ordinance was discussed recently.
