“It has been an eyesore in the village for years,” Village Trustee Cindy Flaherty said of the property.

The property has received multiple code violations from the Village with no response from its owner. Members of the Village Board noted the roof of the property has begun to cave in and several trees appear close to falling. Action will be taken with the Stockton Town Court in the coming days.

Also of note, the Village Board and Sam Alaimo, public works superintendent, have remained in contact with Matt Zarbo, Director of Engineering at E&B Squared, the con

sulting and engineering firm the village has contracted to proceed with seeking funding for its proposed water system capital project. The village will soon be requesting federal money for the project.

The Village Board also approved a payment of $725 to cover a Grade C Water System Class for Department of Public Works employee Biancca Riggle. The board discussed the matter at length because of past employees departing from their role with the village once receiving the necessary qualifications for other jobs elsewhere. Alaimo stated that he does not anticipate Riggle departing from her role with the village anytime soon.

After further discussion, Village Trustee Danna DuBois amended the motion to include the stipulation that Riggle must pass and complete the class or will need to reimburse the village for the costs incurred.

Also of note, Deputy Clerk Roxanne Astry reported she and Bob Reuther attended the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation luncheon in Syracuse on March 21. She noted that speakers discussed viruses that impact the state’s environment, and that Tree City USA locations were recognized, including Cassadaga.

Clean Up Cassadaga Day is April 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., in which trash will be collected from around the village and can be discarded at the Village Barn, located at 288 Maple Ave., free of charge, for one pickup load per resident. Household garbage, demolition waste, appliances, electronics and tires are not permitted, as well as hazardous waste such as paint, oil, or batteries.

Along the lines of community pick-up, Trustee Danna DuBois shared a desire to implement a day where volunteers clean up streets across the Village, similar to the annual event in Fredonia held by the Fredonia Police Benevolent Association.

DuBois also noted that the Cassadaga Fire Department will have the Fire Hall manned on Sunday, April 7 and Monday, April 8 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., at the request of the County, because of the total solar eclipse on April 8.
