A lakeside property that was originally targeted for a housing development, but later shelved, has changed hands.

The Post-Journal and OBSERVER have been analyzing real estate sales in Chautauqua County and recently looked at the transactions from Aug. 22-31.

During that time period, Lodge at Chautauqua Lake LLC, of Lakewood sold 74-78 Water St., Mayville to Erie Bank of Warren, Pa. for $581,714.

This was the location of a proposed 34 unit, $17 million condominium resort by some members of the Webb family. In 2022, it was announced the project would not take place.

The property is for sale. It’s listed on-line for $995,000. A sign on the property says to contact Cushman & Wakefield Pyramid Brokerage Company.

In a separate sale, Mark and Michelle Twichell sold 85-89 W. Main St., Fredonia to New Erie Holding, LLC of Fredonia for $250,000. Dr. Twichell, DDS, specialized in pediatric dentistry before he retired. Before the building was used as a dentist office, it was home to Lake Shore Savings Bank.

Today 85 West Main Street advertises that it has lease space available. The property also has on it a marker for the first natural gas well in the United States.

In a different transaction, 8504 East Forest Ave., Portland to Lake Erie Hidden Treasures, LLC of Ripley for $141,500. Lake Erie Hidden Treasures’ website states that it has a “rustic cottage on 2.5 secluded acres with a hidden beach cove. Enjoy swimming, kayaking and watching beautiful sunsets over Lake Erie.”

Including the sales previously mentioned, there were 14 sales that were $250,000 or higher. The remaining top sales are as follows:
