Hunting Mishap Nets Reckless Endangerment Charges
PORTVILLE — A Cattaraugus County man who was hunting woodchucks but instead bagged his neighbor’s house is facing reckless endangerment charges.
New York State troopers say 51-year-old Lester L. Baker Jr. was in his yard on Route 417 in the town of Portville when he fired a bolt from a crossbow at a woodchuck. However, the shot missed the animal and struck a neighboring home.
The mishap took place July 25, state police said.
Baker was issued an appearance ticket Sunday for second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless endangerment of property. He is scheduled to appear in Portville Town Court later this month.
