Hearing Held For Stabbing Suspect
The fate of the perpetrator in the May stabbing death of 15-year-old Jefrena Brown is likely to rest in the hands of the grand jury.
A preliminary hearing for Ashlyann M. Lopez-Lopez, held this week, brought before Judge John Kuzdale in Dunkirk City Court to rule whether there was enough evidence to hold her further.
Currently Lopez-Lopez is being charged with first-degree manslaughter and remains on a $500,000 cash of $1 million property bond.
According to Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson, the preliminary hearing must be held within a 45-day period following arrest.
Brown and Lopez-Lopez were purportedly involved in an altercation on the 100-block of Lincoln Avenue on May 15 that lead to a fatal wound.
Brown died the following day at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
Dunkirk police are still encouraging anyone with information to call 366-2266 or leave an anonymous tip on the department’s tip line at 363-0313.
All calls will be kept confidential.
