Once the weather breaks, Ben Weitsman of Jamestown, a scrap metal recycling business, will start a multi-million dollar improvement project of its scrapyard at 610 W. Eighth St. in Jamestown.

According to Paul Weinstein, vice president of Ben Weitsman of Jamestown, the improvements will include a new warehouse, blacktopping the whole scrapyard, new fencing and landscaping.

“It’s all independently funded,” Weinstein said. “He (Adam Weitsman, owner) isn’t looking for any tax credits or grants. He’s putting the money back into the company to do the improvements.”

Weinstein said the owner wanted to create a better work environment for the neighborhood and for the customers to have a better experience when coming into the scrapyard as opposed to coming to dirt and mud.

“Environmentally, it’s also cleaner,” he said. “… We do look to gain business also and hopefully add employees.”

The company has 18 locations across New York and Pennsylvania. Originally the Weinstein Company, Paul Weinstein, fourth generation owner, sold the company about three years ago to join the leading private scrap metal processor on the East Coast. He said it was the right thing to do to be involved with a growing company, and it became the second acquisition for Ben Weitsman of Jamestown.

It is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
