Buffalo man sentenced on weapons charge following arrest in Jamestown
MAYVILLE – A Buffalo man is headed to state prison following his conviction on a weapons charge.
According to District Attorney Jason Schmidt, on June 16, 2023, 39-year-old Dion Carr, was arrested during a traffic stop by the Jamestown Police Department. During a search of Carr’s vehicle, a 9 mm pistol was found on the floor at his feet just under the driver’s seat.
Carr, who was previously convicted of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in September 2013, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C violent felony offense, on April 11, 2024.
Following his plea before Hon. David Foley in the Chautauqua County Court, Carr failed to appear and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. During his absence, Carr was again arrested and charged with possessing a loaded firearm and narcotics by the Jamestown Police Department on Sept. 26, 2024. Those charges were indicted by the Chautauqua County Grand Jury in January and remain pending.
On Friday, Carr was sentenced on the 2023 weapons charge. Due to his prior weapons conviction from 2013, Carr was sentenced as a second violent felony offender to the maximum term of 15 years in state prison to be followed by 5 years post-release supervision.
He will appear in County Court on April 28 on the new firearms indictment.
Schmidt would like to thank the Jamestown Police Department for their hard work on these cases.
