FALCONER — A chain-reaction crash between a car and pickup truck hauling two other vehicles sent both drivers to the hospital Thursday morning.

The accident, reported at about 5 a.m., occurred at the intersection of Main and Work streets in the village of Falconer.

According to the Ellicott Police Department, a 35-year-old Brooklyn man driving a 1-ton pickup truck with a fifth-wheel car hauler traveling west on East Main Street reportedly ran a red light. During an attempt to avoid a collision with a car, being operated by a 50-year-old Jamestown man, a vehicle came off the hauler and struck the city man’s car, a BMW.

The collision forced the BMW into a utility pole at the intersection; the vehicle sustained heavy damage.

The 50-year-old man was transported to UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown and later flown to an Erie, Pa., hospital for further treatment. The driver of the pickup was also transported to the hospital.

An update on their conditions was not known.

In addition to Ellicott police, members of the Falconer Fire Department responded to the crash.

Ellicott police said the Brooklyn man was issued a summons for disobeying a traffic control device. Use of nearby surveillance video assisted officers in the investigation.
