Police Identify Woman Killed In Westfield Crash
WESTFIELD — A 45-year-old Pennsylvania woman was killed Thursday afternoon when her sport utility vehicle struck a semi tractor-trailer.
A portion of Route 5 in Westfield was closed to traffic for several hours following the crash, reported to Chautauqua County 911 dispatch around 1:30 p.m. The crash occurred near Light Road.
According to Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police, it appeared the westbound 2002 GMC SUV for an unknown reason crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with an eastbound semi.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Jessica M. Swan of Waterford, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the 2015 Peterbuilt semi, identified as Kevin A. McGrath of Union City, Pa., was not injured, Balon said.
In addition to state troopers, members of the Westfield Fire Department and Chautauqua County EMS were initially summoned to Route 5 for the crash. A medical helicopter was briefly placed on standby but later canceled.
Route 5, between Hawley Street and Rogerville Road, was closed to traffic as a result of the crash.
Accident reconstruction crews with the New York State Police responded as well.
