Borrello Wins State Senate Seat
On to Albany.
Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello cruised to victory in Tuesday’s special election to fill the state Senate seat vacated by Cathy Young earlier this year. Borrello, according to unofficial results, defeated Democratic challenger Austin Morgan.
Borrello previously served as a county legislator for seven years before he became county executive starting in 2018.
A north county resident, Borrello won the Republican primary for the 57th District in the state Senate in June, defeating Allegany County legislator Curtis Crandall.
The district includes all of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, as well as parts of Livingston County
Young served in the state Senate from 2005 to 2019 before she resigned to take a position at Cornell University.
