Scandinavian Culture Day Is Saturday At JCC

Scandinavian Culture Day, celebrating Swedish Easter traditions, will be held on Saturday at Jamestown Community College’s Hamilton Collegiate Center.
Coffee and lingonberry drink will be served at 9:30 a.m. with the first round of workshops beginning at 10 a.m. and the second round at 11 a.m. During fika at 10:45 a.m., semla, a seasonal bun with almond and whipped cream filling will be served. First round workshops include cooking, children’s folk dancing followed by the Swedish School for Children, woodcarving, chip carving, rosemaling painting, genealogy research, knitting and Swedish weaving (huck.) Schottis dance instruction will be provided at 10:30 a.m. The cooking workshop will be demonstrating gubbrora, a Swedish Easter egg snack.
Additional workshops at 11 a.m. include a book discussion and a craft of making feather branches with Easter witches and birds to put on them. All workshops are free and open to the public with no registration required,
At 11:30 a.m. there will be a discussion about Swedish food traditions including sampling of a Swedish meatball dinner. This is designed for JCC students for free. Anybody can join the lunch for $18 per plate. Make reservations at 716-665-0883 if interested or call for more information.
