JCC Student Art & Design Exhibition Opens May 2
Jamestown Community College’s annual Student Art & Design Exhibition opening reception and awards ceremony is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the Weeks Gallery.
The event is free to attend and open to the public.
Any student who has taken an art class at JCC can submit their work to be professionally juried, installed and exhibited. Selected students will receive awards for excellence in painting and 2D, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, digital and new media, and photography, as well as the President’s Award for Artistic Excellence.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists, view their work, and enjoy light refreshments.
This year’s juror, Anna Wager, lives and works in Buffalo, where she is curator of exhibitions at the University at Buffalo Art Galleries. The Jamestown native curates and programs SUNY Buffalo’s two gallery spaces, works with students and faculty, and promotes community access to research. Wagner’s recent exhibitions include solo shows by Christy Rupp, Maria Guzmán Capron, and Yoonmi Nam. She is currently facilitating a collection exhibition curated by UB Galleries staff.
“The exhibition provides a valuable learning experience by modeling professionally juried exhibitions and teaching students about the process of preparing, editing and submitting work for exhibition,” said Colin Shaffer, JCC’s managing director of Galleries. “We are excited to have the talented and knowledgeable Anna Wager with us to select our student’s work and share her artistic wisdom.”
Starting with the opening reception, the exhibition will be on display through May 12 at Weeks Gallery, located on the second floor of the Jamestown Campus Sheldon Center. Visitors are welcome 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Visit sunyjcc.edu/Galleries for more information.
