CASSADAGA – Cassadaga Village Historian John Sipos was appointed at a recent Cassadaga Village Board meeting to serve a 21st consecutive year.

Sipos was first appointed in 2005.

As the historian, some of his many duties are to keep records of the village, including research and sharing research, and maintaining records for future use. At a recent board meeting, Sipos showed his annual notebook of village records for 2024, and one of his many general notebooks to the village mayor William Dorman, and other board members.

In his general historical notebook, Sipos has records and photographs which date back to at least 200 years of Cassadaga history. The village of Cassadaga was formed in 1809, and incorporated in 1921. The village was incorporated so that a village fire department could be formed. Keeping records and doing research is a major part of the historian position.

Sipos is a member of the Government Appointed Historians of Western New York, Western New York Appointed Historians Association, Appointed Public Historians of Western New York, The Valley Historical Society which serves the Cassadaga Valley area, The Chautauqua County Historical Society, serves as the historian for the town of Stockton, and the historian for the Swedish Thule Lodge for 25 years.
