Audubon To Screen Film About Local Aquatic Invaders

Selected for two documentary film festivals, “Seeing the Unseen: Aquatic Invaders and What’s at Stake” about Lake Erie and nearby areas will be shown at Audubon Community Nature Center’s First Friday on April 4.

Invasive species in Lake Erie and nearby regions is the topic of a film that will be shown April 4 at the Audubon Community Nature Center.

The center’s First Friday on April 4 from 11 a.m. to noon will feature a screening of the new film “Seeing the Unseen: Aquatic Invaders and What’s at Stake.” Produced by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program staff, viewers will learn how hundreds of aquatic invasive species are negatively affecting Lake Erie and its watershed and nearby regions.

The 45-minute film was an official selection for the 2024 Documentaries Without Borders International Film Festival and the Raw Science Film Festival. The viewing will be followed by a question and answer session featuring regional invasive experts.

Those who want to bring a packed lunch can visit attendees and the experts after the program.

The program fee is $8 or $6 for Nature Center members and children ages 9 to 15. Reservations are appreciated by calling 716-569-2345 or online at AudubonCNC.org/events. Walk-ins are welcome.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Visit the nearly 600-acre nature preserve, check in on the live birds of prey, and hike more than five miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free.

Starting at $2.99/week.
