St. Luke’s will host a performance of the Decho Ensemble at 6 p.m. Jan. 17.

The Decho Ensemble was founded by Sarah Marchitelli of the State University at Fredonia and Jacob Swanson, a Vandoren Artist Clinician, State University at Fredonia and Gowanda Central School graduate in 2011 with the intention of sharing the saxophone as a concert instrument of wide ranging capability. Ensemble member and vocalist Katherine Petersen (Northeastern Illinois University) joined the original duo to champion works for voice and saxophone, and this January’s performance will also include long-time collaborator Dr. Allison d’Amato (Doctoral of Musical Arts, New England Conservatory of Music).

“Decho Ensemble has a soulful and refreshing sound that I’m excited to bring to the Jamestown audience,” said Karen Hewes Suber, director of music and community arts integration at St. Luke’s, “and Jacob’s saxophone performance in November had such a fantastic reception by our community, I’m excited to see the response to the more varied sounds of the quartet.”

Decho will perform select works for voice, saxophone, and piano including new works dedicated to the performers alongside a masterwork by Brahms: his famous horn trio.

Donations are accepted to support the ensemble. St. Luke’s is located at 410 N. Main St., Jamestown, with the entrance on the left side of the church and a handicap accessible entrance off of Potter’s Alley. For questions or more information, call the church office at 716-483-6405 or email Karen Hewes Suber at karen.suber@stlukesjamestown.org.

Starting at $2.99/week.
