Nine CLCS Students In Grades Third Through Sixth Participate In Girls On The Run Program
MAYVILLE – This fall, nine girls in third through sixth grades from Chautauqua Lake Elementary School participated in the Girls on the Run program, a nationwide initiative focused on building confidence, health, and joy through running and team activities.
The group was coached by teachers Megan Grace and Kathy Machemer.
Throughout the season, the Girls on the Run team set personal goals, engaged in group activities, and prepared for the Girls on the Run 5K held recently in Buffalo. The 5K marked the season’s end and celebrated each girl’s progress and accomplishments.
“Seeing the smiles on students’ faces as they proudly crossed the finish line at Delaware Park was truly a testament to the impact of the program and our coaches’ investment, ” said Megan Lundgren, Chautauqua Lake elementary principal.
Beyond physical activities, the program emphasizes community involvement. On Nov. 5, members of Girls on the Run practiced their right to vote by selecting a community service project. The winning idea was to write positive post-it notes for every elementary teacher, paired with a Smartie treat. The girls crafted messages like “You are great!” and “Remember to smile today” and delivered them to teachers’ desks.
