New Sign Erected At Allen Cemetery
Several volunteers recently met at the Allen Cemetery in Poland on Willard Street Extension to help get the cemetery ready for winter. Pictured are volunteers with a new sign purchased and installed by the cemetery to be placed in the new section. The first burial in the cemetery was a child, in 1815, and there are four Revolutionary War soldiers buried there along with four from the War of 1812 and four from the Civil War. The cemetery was named after the Revolutionary soldier Phineas Allen. In 1885 the cemetery was officially organized as the Allen Cemetery Association.
