Mozart Club Hosts Artist, Musician
The Mozart Club was honored to present artist Susan Simmons, collaborating with musicians Kathryn O’Hagan and Linda Carlson, in a speed painting/music event recently.
The theme was “Seeing the Forest Through the Trees” and Simmons created a painting of the city of Jamestown, seen in the distance, through the trees.
Simmons earned her bachelor’s degree in fine art in Austin, at the University of Texas. She has taught painting and sculpture, in Texas, Seattle, and Western New York and teaches locally. Her most recent class, Subtractive Painting, was held at the Patterson Library in Westfield. Simmons participates in the North Shore Arts Alliance Annual Art Trail Hub Crawls and Roger Tory Peterson’s annual Plein Air events, where she was awarded best oil/acrylic painting in 2022. Her work is shown at Westfield’s Portage Hill Gallery, and, through November, at Ryders Cup Coffee in Lakewood.
Simmons donated the painting she created to the Mozart Club for giveaway that will be held at the club’s Christmas luncheon, with proceeds going to the Mozart Club’s Piano Restoration fund. One of the club’s two Steinway grand pianos needs revoicing and refurbishment in time to celebrate its 100th birthday. The Mozart Club has supported young area musicians with scholarships for many decades and makes its pianos available to community members holding events at the Marvin Community House.
