Former Pastor To Preach Sunday At First Presbyterian

Sandy McConnel

First Presbyterian Church Jamestown will welcome the Rev. Dr. George H. (Sandy) McConnel on Sunday to preach at the 10:30 a.m. service.

McConnel served as First Presbyterian’s pastor for 10 years from 1983 to 1993. He left Jamestown for Dayton, Ohio, where he has lived for 31 years. He served The Westminster Presbyterian Church of Dayton as pastor and head of staff for 20 years until he retired in 2013 and was elected pastor emeritus.

In retirement McConnel has served The Miami Valley School as the chair of the Board of Trustees and the Miami Presbytery as its chair of the Committee on Ministry. He and his wife, Alice, enjoy international travel, grandparenting and participating in book groups together. McConnel is an avid golfer, a creative photographer, and a novice guitar player.

Also highlighting Sunday’s service is the Mecham Duo. Jamestown residents Boaz Mecham and Aaron Mecham are in their senior year at the State University at Fredonia where they study violin and piano. At the Sunday service they will accompany the choir as well as playing two movements from the Bach double concerto and an original jazz piece composed for them by another Fredonia student.

All are welcome at worship and for a reception immediately following.

Starting at $2.99/week.
