SUNY Fredonia Students Return To Town, Campus, Classes

SUNY Fredonia students are back in town and their classes begin today.

The campus sprang to life Thursday as the incoming first-year class, the graduating Class of 2027, moved into residence halls across the university.

That class had orientation events from Friday to Sunday. Students returning to campus moved into residence halls Saturday and Sunday.

As usual, many students who reside off campus showed up a little early. SUNY Fredonia was full of activity Friday, but so was the village, with moving trucks aplenty and busier-than-usual streets.

Some 950 first-year, transfer, and graduate students are joining SUNY Fredonia this fall. No information was provided on overall enrollment numbers.

The freshman class includes eight valedictorians and four salutatorians. Three out of every four incoming students are receiving university merit scholarships, while another 13% of students have been awarded honors program scholarships.

“We’re so excited to have the Class of 2027 join us on campus,” said Fredonia President Stephen H. Kolison Jr. “This class is continuing a tradition of students who come to SUNY Fredonia for an exceptional higher education experience in a supportive, inclusive environment. I’m proud to welcome them to the Big Blue Family.”

The majority of students are from New York state, but the Class of ’27 also has representation from 21 states and eight foreign countries.

The incoming class spent its first weekend on campus getting to know each other during campus activities such as back-to-back movie nights, lawn games, trivia, and a late-night breakfast celebration.

Starting at $2.99/week.
