The city of Jamestown is celebrating 41 years as a Tree City USA.

A white spruce tree was planted Dec. 13 at Bergman Park to recognize the achievement of the Tree City USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation. The spruce was one of 22 trees planted behind the Cal Ripken Field at Bergman Park thanks to a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.

“I would like to thank Tory Irgang and everyone at the Community Foundation for their continued support of our Urban Forestry Program. The Community Foundation plays a big role in helping to grow our Urban Forest here in the City of Jamestown,” said Dan Stone, city arborist. “This project is just the latest of many tree planting projects that we have collaborated on with the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation over the years.”

Tree City USA is a program through the Arbor Day Foundation — a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees.

Starting at $2.99/week.
