JPS Hires New Human Resources Director

Renee Garrett

The Jamestown Board of Education has appointed Renee Garrett as the new director of human resources.

Garrett will take over the position from John Panebianco, who is retiring.

“Renee did an amazing job throughout the interview process, and was the top candidate that emerged,” said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, JPS superintendent. “Her extensive experience in education, her experience in understanding and navigating educational systems as well as her understanding of the importance of relationships and human resource protocols played an important part in her selection. I am very much looking forward to welcoming her to JPS as she begins her work with us very soon.”

Most recently, Garrett was superintendent of the Forestville Central School District. She has also been a superintendent at Wayne Central School District and Mount Morris Central Schools. Mrs. Garrett has been a principal, director of curriculum and teacher in the Attica Central Schools. Her more than 26-year educational career and district-level leadership positions bring a wealth of diverse experiences, which she will utilize in her position as human resources director at Jamestown Public Schools.

“I’m so thankful for the good fortune to be a part of Jamestown Public Schools,” Garrett said. “I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be joining the Jamestown Public Schools team. Everyone I have met has been extremely welcoming and I already feel so appreciated. This is such a great opportunity. I’m excited for a change and ready for the next chapter to begin. In my new role as director of human resources, I look forward to developing strong relationships with the union leaders of the district. It’s been my experience that understanding culture is critical. I can’t wait to get to know the Jamestown staff.”

Garrett earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary & Special Education and her master’s degree in Reading and Literacy from SUNY Geneseo. She also has her Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Brockport. Mrs. Garrett holds New York State Permanent Certifications in: School District Administrator, School Administrator and Supervisor, Reading Teacher, Elementary Education and Special Education. She is a member of the NYS Council of Superintendents, NYS Association for Women Administrators, NYS Rural School Association (Board of Directors, Chair), NYS School Boards Association, Statewide School Finance Consortium and the Chautauqua County Schools Boards Association.
