The Roger Tory Peterson Institute will host a series of outdoor bird walks for beginning birders from 9-10 a.m. starting Wednesday.

Many bird species are busy proclaiming that spring has sprung, which means that it’s time for weekly bird walks at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. The spring series of bird walks will continue on successive Wednesdays throughout the spring. Each one-hour bird walk is designed for beginning birders and led by Craig Thompson, former vice chair of the Audubon Council of New York state.

“These outdoor forays will show participants how to identify common local birds by sight and sound using the acclaimed Peterson system,” Thompson said. “Each program will feature a timely theme, beginning with ‘The First Sounds of Spring.'”

All of the bird walks are open to the public and free of charge. Registration is required by 5 p.m. the day before each bird walk and space is limited. To register or for more information, visit rtpi.org/programs/weekly-bird-walks or call 716-665-2473.

Participants are urged to dress for a short hike along the sanctuary’s trails. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bird guides or binoculars are not required, but will be helpful. In case of inclement weather, the program will be canceled.

Starting at $2.99/week.
