‘The Velvet Underground’ And ‘Shang-Chi’ To Be Screened
The Velvet Underground and Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi will be shown this week at the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts
The Velvet Underground created a new sound that changed the world of music, cementing its place as one of rock and roll’s most revered bands. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Todd Haynes, The Velvet Underground, which will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, shows how the group became a cultural touchstone representing a range of contradictions: the band is both of their time, yet timeless; literary yet realistic; rooted in high art and street culture. The Velvet Underground is rated R and is 120 minutes long.
Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, which will be shown at 8 p.m. Saturday, stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung, Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is rated PG-13 and is 132 minutes long.
Upcoming screenings include Matt Damon and Jodie Comer in the historical medieval drama The Last Duel on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Wes Anderson’s ensemble comedy The French Dispatch on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.
Tickets to Movies at The Reg are $7, with an additional $1 theater restoration fee added.
