Spry Announces Candidacy For City Council Ward 4 Seat

Brittnay Spry announced she is running the Jamestown City Council in Ward 4. Spry is new to city politics and has accepted the Republican, Conservative and Libertarian endorsement for the Ward 4 seat.

Spry’s education is in public administration, training in governmental/school finance, and has six years of experience in the public sector. In 2018, Spry earned her master’s degree in public administration from Gannon University, and in December 2019, she will be receiving a school business administrator certification from Niagara University.

In addition to her educational experience, Spry has over six years experience working in the public sector. She is currently employed at Cassadaga Valley School District as the secretary to the superintendent of schools and the clerk to the Board of Education. Prior to that, she worked for the Chautauqua County government in the Department of Human Resources/Civil Service.

Her experience in the public sector have given her a solid foundation and understanding of public administration and public budgets.

As a City Council representative, Spry’s primary objective is to be accessible and available for city residents, and to generate conversation about what the vision is for the future of the city of Jamestown.

“This is our city, but it isn’t our city, unless we are all involved,” she said. “I want to invite people to the table. I want to know what their vision is, what they want to see the city do, what changes they want to see made. I want to bring those voices and concerns back to City Hall and make change that is meaningful and impacts the future of our city in a better way.”

Additional areas that are important to Spry include:

¯ evaluate the city’s budget to ensure that tax dollars are being used efficiently and effectively;

¯ advocate for an aggressive short-term and long-term financial plan;

¯ promote positive culture in City Hall through non-partisan relationships and accessibility for residents, employees and administrators;

¯ support a safer Jamestown by addressing the concerns of our Public Safety Departments;

¯ incentivize revitalization of homes;

¯ survey city residents for feedback on the city; and

¯ establish strong relationships with neighboring municipalities

Spry lives in Ward 4 with her husband, Nick, and her young daughter Emily.
