Public Market Continues, Adds Fall Activities

The Jamestown Public Market continues on Cherry Street in Jamestown with fall activities starting Sept. 14.

Sept. 14 the market will host an exercise class with The Chautauqua Center’s Alicia Ekstrom. POUND is the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by playing the drums. The class will begin at 11:30 a.m. and is free for the public, of all ages, to join.

Sept. 21 is the market’s inaugural Fall Fest, featuring a variety of activities including a food preservation demo with a local master food preserver. Customers of the market can learn, at no cost, simple food preservation techniques to make the most of their fall produce purchases. The Fall Fest will also include food tastings with Cornell Cooperative Extension EFNEP educators, live music with Rebecca Mcilvain, activities with CASAC and a squash decorating activity at the SPROUTs tent.

Other events planned for fall include live musical entertainment, made possible through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s Greater Jamestown Leadership Fund. Musical acts scheduled include: Russell & Hamels on Sept. 14 and Juli Bessey on Sept. 28.

The market is open rain or shine, until the last Saturday in October. Other fall events planned include a second food preservation demo on Oct. 12, as well as continued SPROUTs activities with the Chautauqua Connections Children’s Coalition.

The Jamestown Public Market is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Cherry Street. The market accepts EBT benefits, credit/debit cards, and participates in the Double Up Food Bucks New York Program, which helps individuals receiving EBT benefits stretch their dollars towards the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables.
