Sinclairville Library To Host Observatory Night Thursday

SINCLAIRVILLE – The Sinclairville Free Library will present “A Night with the Martz-Kohl Observatory” on Thursday at 6 p.m. Explore the sky and learn about the library’s new telescope donated by the Marshal Martz Memorial Astronomical Association Inc. Create a planisphere (limited supply) and other space-themed activities. At 7 p.m. those attending will go outside to observe the moon and planet Jupiter. The observatory has placed telescopes in local public libraries, allowing general access to portable telescopes that can be put into circulation just like a book. The goals of the program are to help foster scientific literacy, to stimulate interest in astronomy, to enable people who have never looked through a telescope the chance to experience the excitement that comes from discovery, and to provide a valuable asset for libraries. Thursday’s program will be rescheduled if rain is expected. The program is appropriate for school-aged children to adults and is free and open to the public. The telescope can be borrowed using a current library card, though a telescope agreement is needed. Visit sinclairvillelibrary.org for a full calendar of events and programs.
