Waste Site Opens Saturday Starting April 12
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities Yard Waste Site for residential swlid Waste customers begins 2025 Saturday hours on April 12 at 1001 Monroe St. A new 2025 Yard Waste Site sticker is required to enter the site. Site hours are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, April 12 through Nov. 8 and 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays May 7 through Sept. 24. The site is restricted to BPU Solid Waste residential customers, as their garbage/recycling rate pays for site operations. BPU Solid Waste customers who want to enter the site must display a yellow-colored 2025 BPU Yard Waste Site sticker on the rear driver-side window of the vehicle. The window stickers are free-of-charge to BPU Solid Waste residential customers. Only one sticker is provided for each customer account. The window stickers are available at the BPU Customer Service Office, 92 Steele St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. The office is closed daily from 1 to 2 p.m. and is closed on Good Friday, April 18. Contractors will not be permitted to use the site. The window stickers allow BPU employees who staff the site to identify BPU Solid Waste residential customers and ensure that non-BPU solid waste customers do not use the site. At the site, customers may discard leaves, grass clippings, mulch, plants/shrubs/bushes; tree parts and brush up to eight inches in diameter. Metals, sod, concrete, rocks, dirt, lumber/wood, tires, drywall and other construction materials are not accepted. For more information, BPU customers may call the Garbage Hotline at 716-661-1651.

The Independent Living Program with Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services, Gustavus Adolphus Accountability and Responsibility Program, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Chautauqua County and YWCA Jamestown will hold the Game of REAL Life Teen Resource Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the G.A. Family Services gymnasium, 210 Gustavus Ave., Jamestown. Youth must enter the gymnasium at the back parking lot. Teens and young adults ages 14-21 are invited to attend.The free event is open to all teens and young adults who are living in Chautauqua County and interested in connecting with local organizations that can assist with the transition into adulthood and independent living. Attendees can visit with representatives from area employment agencies, continuing education institutions, housing agencies, banking institutions, transportation companies, healthcare organizations and support systems. Attendees can also play the game of REAL Life and win prize baskets. Attendees earn basket giveaway tickets by visiting and interacting with vendor representatives. There will be the chance to win several prize baskets along with an e-bike, helmet and lock package valued at more than $1,200. Youth must arrive before 12:30 p.m. to be entered into the door prize. Agencies will be on hand to perform live life-skill demos. Food and drinks will be provided.
