The Jamestown City School District Board of Education will be meeting in the boardroom of the administration building, 197 Martin Road, Jamestown at 6 p.m. today. The public is welcome to attend.

Boys, Girls Club To Hold Open House Thursday

The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club will hold an open house to honor Jeff Kroon’s more than 40 years of service to the club and community. The open house will be held in the club’s community room at 62 Allen St. from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The community is welcome to attend, have light refreshments, sign the guest book and thank Kroon for his many years of service to the club.

Wood Carving Club Beginning At Scandanavian Culture Day

Feb. 1

A new wood carving club will begin at the JCC Scandinavian Culture Day program on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. No registration is required and the sessions are free. Wood blanks, patterns and instructions will be provided. Sessions will be held in the Hamilton Collegiate Center of Jamestown Community College. Although there is a focus on the Swedish heritage any wood carving patterns are welcome. The Culture Day program meets the first Saturday of the month from October to May. Coffee and lingonberry drink are served beginning at 9:30 a.m.. The first round of workshops begins at 10 a.m. and the second round at 11 a.m. Fika Is served at 10:45 a.m. Typical workshops include chip carving, cooking, knitting, Swedish weaving (huck), book study, Norwegian painting, crafts, and adult social dancing. A Swedish school for children also meets at 10 a.m. with folk dancing and other activities. Again, admission is free and all are welcome. Culture Day is sponsored by the Scandinavian Studies Program. Alzheimer’s Association Offers Program Today At Office For Aging

The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will offer a free education program on supporting independence in people living with dementia at 2 p.m. today at the Chautauqua County Office for Aging Services, 107 Institute St., Jamestown. “People living with dementia want to remain independent for as long as possible, yet caregivers may not know how to balance safety and independence,” says Andrea Koch, director of community engagement for the WNY Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The program, part of the Association’s new “Empowered Caregiver” education series, will cover how dementia changes a person’s independence and impacts safety, how to provide the right amount of support, and tips to make every activity meaningful to the person living with dementia.
