Prendergast Library Offers Winter Break Activities
The James Prendergast Library will offer several special activities for children and teenagers during the upcoming winter break. On Dec. 23, the library will host a Nightlight/Fiber Optic Lamp craft from 3 to 4 p.m. for children ages 6-12 and a Felt Succulent Craft from 5 to 6 p.m. for those ages 12 to 18. Dec. 26 is Pokemon Day from noon to 1 p.m. for children up to 8 years of age and 2 to 3 p.m. for children ages 9 to 14. A suncatcher craft will be offered Dec. 30 from 2 to 3 p.m. for ages 12 to 18. Registration is required for these free program by calling the library or visiting the library.
Westfield
Christmas Eve Service Announced
WESTFIELD — A communitywide Noel Candlelight Christmas Eve service will be at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, 12 English St., Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 11 p.m. The service will include scripture, song, dance and handbells. Featuring Westfield area youth and adults since December 1999, the annual service is organized and directed by Kent and Nannette Knappenberger. In past years, the more than 40 youth and adult member choir participants have represented as many as 13 different churches. The offerings from the evening’s service will go to the Westfield Ministerial Association and will benefit the community.
Ross Grange To Meet Jan. 13
FALCONER – A catered lunch was served to Ross Grange members recently at the Falcon’s Nest. Brenda Cavallero, Falconer historian, discussed Christmas celebrations in the village. She gave the history of the Christrmas Tree, which started in Germany. The first one in the U.S. was in Bethlehem, Pa. St. Nicholas is Santa Claus. In 1966 Falconer had their first Santa and their first Santa House. It has been at various locations and is now permanently located in Coleson Park. Others shared their Christmas memories in Falconer including caroling and playing music on the street corners. Betty Wakefield, lecturer gave a reading “Christmas Chaos.” The group donated $100 to the Blue Star Mothers to use for postage. Bills for expenses were paid. Those attending the meeting brought cereal for the Kennedy Food Cupboard. The next meeting will be Jan. 13.
Watts Flats UMC To Hold Lasagna Dinner Dec. 18
WATTS FLATS – The Watts Flats United Methodist Church, 866 Blockville-Watts Flats Road, Watts Flats, will be having a lasagna dinner with desserts on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The dinner will cost $10 with all proceeds to benefit the church.
JLDC To Hold Annual Meeting
The Jamestown Local Development Corporation will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room in city hall. The public is welcome to attend.
