Auxiliary Meets, Agrees To Make Donation To

Help Family

FREWSBURG – The Samuel L. Derby Unit 556 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Frewsburg met recently and agreed to make a $700 monetary donation to the family of Jace Haase, member Laurie Swanson’s grandson, who will be undergoing chemotherapy in Pittsburgh for up to two years. It was noted that the cost of Girls State is now $400 per girl. Membership is at 163 members, or 65%. Christmas gifts and toiletries will be purchased and delivered to the nine veterans at The Magnolia. A thank you note from the local Quilts of Valor group for the $100 donation was read. The Children’s Christmas party will be held on Dec. 8. Members will purchase and wrap the gifts, as well as provide cookies and milk. It was agreed to also purchase 75 candy canes or chocolate suckers for the children. Members brought in donated items for the Christmas raffle basket. A $200 donation was given to Homeward Bound Adirondacks, the New York Department President’s Project this year. Homeward Bound Adirondacks is a non-profit staffed by veterans that provides free veteran services; such as retreats, transportation, crisis support, and case management. The Auxiliary’s Christmas party will be held at the next meeting on Dec. 17. The Town of Carroll Bicentennial Committee is doing a fundraiser selling vinyl “memorial bricks” at $30 each. The Samuel L. Derby Auxiliary Unit 556 meets the third Tuesday of every month, and all members are encouraged to attend.

Sinclairville Library To Host Poetry Workshop Monday

SINCLAIRVILLE – “Generative Poetry and Prose Workshop with John Brantingham” will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the SInclairville Free Library with mood music provided by local guitarist, Rico Garfalo. The workshop will be followed by an open mic reading at 6 p.m. In the workshop, those attending will create at least one piece of poetry or fiction and are free to share during open mic. Attend one or both of the sessions. The library is also selling tickets for its holiday basket giveaway featuring a crocheted tote bag filled with goodies. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Meet Dec. 17

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency board will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Center for Innovation & Economic Development, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, in the first floor conference room. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting will also be live streamed on Zoom and YouTube.

Hazeltine Library To Meet Dec. 17

BUSTI – The Hazeltine Public Library’s year-end board meeting is set for Tuesday, Dec.17, at the library. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. and is open to the public. Stanley Hose Company To Host Red Cross Blood Drive

SHERMAN – The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Stanley Hose Company, 122 Park St., Sherman. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Democrats To Host Holiday Party

The Chautauqua County Democratic Committee will host a holiday party on Thursday, Dec. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sheridan VFW, 2556 Route 20, Sheridan. Local Democratic Party members and supporters are invited to attend. Michael Bobseine and Susan Parker will be recognized for their dedication.
