West Portland Baptist Church To Host Christmas Concert
WESTFIELD – The West Portland Baptist Church will host a Christmas concert by the Valley Community Choir of Cassadaga on Sunday at 5 p.m. The concert is being performed in honor of Sally G. Merwin. Before her death in 2021, Merwin was employed by the Westfield Academy and Central School System as an elementary school music teacher for many years. In addition, she founded and directed the Westfield Community Chorus for more than 40 years and was a member of the Chautauqua Institution Choir and Barberettes, a barbershop quartet. Upon her passing, she left her music library with her daughter hoping that she would be able to pass it on to a music program in her mother’s memory. Last year the library was given to the Valley Community Choir, which will perform pieces from Merwin’s library on Sunday. Following the concert there will be a dinner fellowship in the church activity center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
