Historical Society To Host Speaker Wednesday
BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Historical Society Guest Speaker Series continues on Wednesday as Jon Schmitz, Chautauqua Institution archivist and historian, leads a program exploring how well participants know their Chautauqua history. The event is free and open to the public at the Bemus Point village hall on Alburtus Avenue beginning at 7 p.m. The adjacent Bemus Point Historical Society Museum will be open for touring beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information “like” the Bemus Point Historical Society on Facebook or call 716-450-1947.

To Meet Today
The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education will meet today at Fletcher Elementary in the upper gymnasium, 301 Cole Ave., Jamestown. The meeting starts with a 5:45 p.m. performance by Fletcher students followed by the meeting at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting agenda can be seen at JPSNY.org/BoardAgenda.

Skating Club Holding Chicken Dinner
Fundraiser
The Jamestown Skating Club is having a chicken dinner fundraiser by Weidner BBQ . Meals are available by pre-order only, with tickets available from any skater. The cost is $17 for a half chicken, potato, coleslaw and a roll. Diners can be picked up Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Northwest Arena Cafe from 5 to 7 p.m. The arena is located at 319 W. Third St., Jamestown. Orders are due by Wednesday.
P-J Columnist To Speak Nov. 16 At Bemus Point Library

BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Library is hosting a book talk and signing at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, featuring Marcy O’Brien, a regular columnist in The Post-Journal and Warren Times Observer. She will answer questions and discuss the writing process. A Massachusetts native, she went from Boston University to a dozen years at American Airlines. She taught for four years in the business curriculum at Alfred State College and spent a few decades in designer fashion, interior design and small business ownership. Her final job was as executive director of the Struthers Library Theatre, which won the National Historic Theatre of the Year award during her 11-year tenure. O’Brien won the 2023 Erma Bombeck Global Writing Competition in addition to two previous honorable mentions. Recently, she won First Prize in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists annual writing contest in the Lifestyle category. O’Brien lives in Warren with her husband and Maine coon cat. She has two adult children and two grandchildren.
