Lakewood Library Holding Fall Book Sale Today

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library will hold its fall book sale today through Saturday during open hours. The library will have books, DVDs, puzzles and other items available.

Outdoor Club To Hike Sunday

Members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike Sunday, with the group meeting at 1 p.m. at Musante Street, Warren, or 1:15 p.m. at the Game Lands 29 parking lot near the Microwave Tower off Route 337. The group will hike 4 or 5 miles on the game lands with some hills. Greg Burkett will be the leader for this event.

Bemus Point Library To Host P-J Columnist Saturday

BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Library is hosting a book talk and signing at 11 a.m. Saturday featuring Marcy O’Brien, a regular columnist in The Post-Journal and Warren Times Observer. She will answer questions and discuss the writing process. A Massachusetts native, she went from Boston University to a dozen years at American Airlines. She taught for four years in the business curriculum at Alfred State College and spent a few decades in designer fashion, interior design and small business ownership. Her final job was as executive director of the Struthers Library Theatre, which won the National Historic Theatre of the Year award during her 11-year tenure. O’Brien won the 2023 Erma Bombeck Global Writing Competition in addition to two previous honorable mentions. Recently, she won First Prize in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists annual writing contest in the Lifestyle category. O’Brien lives in Warren with her husband and Maine coon cat. She has two adult children and two grandchildren.

BPU Announces Veterans’ Day Schedules

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Veterans’ Day. The Customer Service Office reopens for business at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12. Garbage and recycling collection for the week of November 11-15 will take place on the regular Monday through Friday schedule. The recyclables for the week are boxboard and cardboard. The BPU Yard Waste Site will open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 9, for the final day of the year. Customers are reminded that bills may be paid by phone and online by credit card, debit card or e-check. Click on the blue My Account button at www.jamestownbpu.com for online payment. Phone payments may be made by calling 716-661-1660, ext. 3. Customers also may leave BPU payments in drop-off boxes located in the Customer Service Office parking lot down the “D” driveway, 92 Steele Street; in the Jamestown Police Department vestibule on the East Second Street side of City Hall; and outside the Third Street entrance of City Hall on Tracy Plaza. Payments left in drop boxes should only be made by check or money order. For reports of trouble in all BPU Divisions, customers may call 716-661-1640 after hours.
