Red Cross Blood Drive Is Thursday At Lakeside

MAYVILLE – The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeside Park Community Center, 50 W. Lake Road, Mayville. To make an appointment or for more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App. visit RedCrossBlood.org. call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Library To Host Edgar Allen Poe

Collage Program

LAKEWOOD – Wendy Bale will host “Poe’s the Raven” at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lakewood Memorial Library. The collage workshop will combine the raven from Edgar Allen Poe’s most famous poem, “The Raven.” Bale will lead a beginner workshop through a collage process incorporating text from the poem and bird imagery. The group will discuss Poe’s poem and tragic life and look at the difference between ravens and crows while leaving with a an 8-by-10 piece of art.

Prendergast Library To Host Pumpkin Painting Oct. 19

The James Prendergast Library will host pumpkin painting from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Families are invited to come and paint pumpkins. There is no charge to attend. There will also be fall-themed crafts. Small pumpkins and paint will be provided. The program is for ages 18 and under. Due to limited supplies, registration is required by visiting the library’s children’s desk or calling 716-484-7135, ext. 233.

Boat America Class To Be Offered Oct. 19

MAYVILLE – The U.S, Coast Guard Dunkirk Flotilla 34 will teach the Boat America eight-hour class from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at VFW Post 9657, 10 Memorial Drive, Mayville. Lunch is available at the post for a fee or students can bring their own. The Boat America Class is the nationally recognized course on operating boats and personal watercraft safely. New York’s “Brianna’s law” will require all boat operators, regardless of age, to obtain a safe boating certificate in 2025. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is approved by New York state for its requirement for eight hours of classroom boating safety training in order to operate power boats and personal watercraft (jet skis) on New York State waters. Students must be at least 10 years old. Upon completion of the eight-hour class and exam, the successful student will receive a U.S. Coast Guard Boat America course certificate and laminated wallet card.
