Ridout, Strong Shine In Pool To Highlight Area Action

Tyler Ridout had quite a performance Thursday night for the Frewsburg/Southwestern swimming & diving team.
The senior diver from Frewsburg broke the Southwestern pool record with 263.55 points to highlight his team’s 115-68 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association victory over Fredonia/Cassadaga Valley.
Ridout’s performance surpassed the previous pool record of Alex Mara of Olean, who had 247 points.
Other standouts for Frewsburg/Southwestern (5-0) were Zachary Gifford, who doubled in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.27) and the 500 freestyle (5:33.41); and Gannon Moore, who claimed the 200 individual medley (2:22.25) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.71).
Bill Osula of Fredonia/Cassadaga Valley doubled in the 50 freestyle (22.55) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.01).

STRONG SETS RECORD
PANAMA — Austin Strong became the winningest swimmer in Panama history as the Panthers swam past Olean 96-79.
Strong claimed the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.45) and the 500 freestyle (5:36.68) and was part of the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.27) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:55.18) to eclipse the old record held by his coach, Todd Conklin.
“It’s kind of awesome to coach a kid (who) passes your record,” Conklin said.
Also winning two individual events for the Panthers were RJ Helt in the 200 individual medley (2:23.73) and the 100 butterfly (1:08.64), and Elliott Johnson in the 50 freestyle (24.14) and the 100 freestyle (55.51).
