The Amish take care of themselves pretty well when it comes to paying for medical treatment. They don't need our government interfering.

The recent Supreme Court ruling in the Hobby Lobby case should apply here as well. The govt cannot force health insurance that includes items your religion does not support, such as birth control (I think the Amish are against that). I would like to see the ruling expanded to FORCE the govt to stop imposing what a few rich people THINK is best for everyone!! One size does not fit all.

My understanding is that Amish groups/clans maintain mutual aid funds for purposes of paying the major healthcare expenses of those in the group. The group may appoint one of their own as fund administrator, or in some instances the services of a non-Amish "professional" may be used. Such groups are considered to be good customers by the medical providers with whom they've developed business relationships. The group's administrator minimizes costs by negotiating a well discounted fee structure for services rendered in exchange for a quick, in full cash payment.

Leave the Amish alone. If they need some kind of assistance they will ask for it. Otherwise they take care of their own. Back off !

blu3 left because I kept asking him tough questions. His act ran thin and most were on to him. Speaking of attacking people, you just called a group of young men bigots. A group of young men who belong to an organization that has saved countless lives over the years due to their training. Attacking a group of 17-18 year olds who have already done much for their community is cowardly. I do agree that politics isn't your strong suit, your strong suit is hate, that's all you know.

I think everyone who wants health insurance should be able to obtain affordable health insurance. That should be a given no matter what political doctrine you subscribe to. I do however have a problem with the individual mandate of the ACA. That being said, I don't have any issue with the Amish being exempt from the individual mandate, Native American's are also exempt from it as well.

The law doesn’t contain specific language about which denominations or religions would qualify for an exemption, but it does specify that individuals belonging to religious groups for exemptions if they have religious beliefs opposed to health insurance or medical treatment. These kinds of exemptions exist for other federal programs such as medicare and social security, and there are rules for determining who qualifies.

@bluesman - You're truly one of the more entertaining personalities on here.

@WilliamBaroo - The hobby lobby ruling isn't really what we are talking about here, but i see you

bluesman with respect to other members of our small community that wish to take part in the discussions here, would you please cut the spam down a little. Your obsession with me is getting a little out of hand and is really becoming counter productive to everyone here. I enjoy reading the posts that you make that relate to topics at hand, and although i might not always respond, I do in fact always read them. If you really want to know who I am, I would be happy to add you to FB.
