"There are lots of ways to defend yourself and your family." Oh, I'm sorry, I left out dude. Let's see, you can run, you can hide. In your case you would probably just swing your purse at him. Or, just say "dude, leave my house right now." I'm sure that will work.

So come on, tell us what your plan is. The chance of it happening is small, but everyone should be prepared in case of a home invasion. You can't just hope that it doesn't happen. You don't have a plan do you? And you're envious of those who don't just hope the cops show up in time. Deep down, you want to be one of those people who can take care of themselves, but you just can't find the courage.

Ha ha ha! I knew that would bring out at least one gun nut cowboy who would have us all armed like in the old west. So to interpret what Blues said, it appears that if you don't have a gun, you must be hiding from threats. Dude, there are lots of ways to protect and defend yourself, family and property without a gun. You mention "closet" an awful lot. Is there something you're trying to tell us, Blues? Come on out, we are all enlightened here and will not pass judgement on you. You yourself ought to "grow a pair" so you don't have to use the threat of a gun as an answer for every threatening encounter. Of course, you would have to become a rational thinker for that to happen. Never mind. That's asking a lot from your type.

As a child, I'm sure hacksbgone was always envious of the kids who could fight their own battles and didn't go running to a teacher or older brother. At some point hacksbgone, you have to stop running for the closet. Come on, toughen up a little.

Hacksbgone – Isn’t it ironic that you are spouting off crap about bullies while you yourself are trying to bully me into not stating my opinion?

I was not bullied as a child. I am not looking for a fight. Being involved in a shooting is about the most horrible thing you can be in, even if it was 100% legally justified.

Being aware and being prepared is not being paranoid! So often when an incident happens, such as a car accident, they always say “it came out of nowhere”. That is physically impossible. The truth is that you were not paying attention to your surroundings!

If someone was wearing a life jacket in a boat or wearing a hardhat in a dangerous job, would you say the same crap about them?

So what is your plan hacksbgone if Charles Manson picks your house at 3:00A. Oh, I know, your plan is to hope that it doesn't happen isn't it. Hiding in a closet like the coward that you are is a great plan. Maybe your neighbor isn't afraid of guns and he will come over to save you. If not, maybe the closet door will hold up.

Typical response from a far left loon. If someone wants to be prepared in case something happens that means you got picked on as a child. That comment is so stupid it hurts. Hiding in a closet and hope the cops get there in time is your plan I guess. Why not just grow a pair, get yourself a gun so you don't have to depend on others to protect your sorry a.s.

I'll bet Larry was picked on a lot when he was a kid. Bullies. You didn't have a hammer back then, did you Larry? Well now that you're all grown up you carry that hammer with you, thinking your gonna "nail" any bully you think you see. How paranoid those bullies made you. Now you walk around just waiting for them. You are ready to hammer them when you answer your door too. That gun is nothing more than a security blanket for that little kid inside of you who got beat up all the time. Paranoia must eat you up every day.

So, Lucky, I'm supposed to be a defenseless victim and hope that the bad guy has mercy? I may go down, but I will be trying!

If you knock on my door, there will always be a gun immediately available. And if you act in an aggressive manner, it WILL be pointed at you. And I have every legal right to do so!

Police get shot because their job puts them in a dangerous place. I always am aware of my environment and try to avoid potentially bad places if possible.

A lot of drunks wondering around Bemus after dark this time of year. Sometimes they're so wasted they don't even know they're blocking the road. I'm not afraid of them but the cops are. They're afraid that if they bother them they will take their tourist money and spend it elsewhere. Shouldn't be able to be drunk and blocking the road just because your spending money in the local clubs.

Larry, if carrying a gun will protect you from everything, why do trained police get shot ? Carrying a concealed gun may give you peace of mind, but you could be robbed at anytime even with your gun and they would also steal the gun. Carrying a gun will only help when you have time and training to react. If you walk past somebody on a sidewalk and they stick a gun in your ribs, you are a victim. I don't say this as a novice, I have been shooting guns since I was 5 and was a state champion in competition shooting. I have known many self defense experts and if have no time to react you are just a victim. The same is true about protecting you house with a gun. If a 12yr old knocks on you door and you open it, then a 20 yr old pushes his way in with a gun in you face, your guns are no good. You would have to always answer the door with a gun in hand pointed at the person on the outside. Try that and see how long you get to keep you guns.

The only thing that scares me is that we have a Mayor and working (supposedly) that is over paid for a area that is dying on the vine. Our taxes are way to high for a city that everyone is trying to leave for another state because they can't pay the taxes anymore and industry is looking for a better place as well.

Your guns aren't going to do you crap because you wont be able to carry them every where. Just a few nights ago we had a bunch of fireworks pummel the porch were staying at and the idiots ran while they took off. By the end, there was a daughter who was having an asthma attack and a neighbor who was dealing with a seizure because of this. Would I feel safer in Jamestown? Heck NO. NOT with the drugs and arrogance flying around
