DUNKIRK - Phone Zone/Butera's/J.O.S.E. had a 6-0 record to win the recent Dunkirk Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament.
The champions defeated the Firehouse of Canton, Ohio, 18-13, with Doug Trapani hitting two home runs. Jason Matve Sr., Jason Matve Jr. and Bryant Watts also hit home runs.
In the semifinals, Phone Zone/Butera's/J.O.S.E. topped Ohio II Team, 21-3, with Trapani hitting two more home runs. Dustin Bausch, Ryan Anderson, Kyle Jenkins and Brandon Gifford all added a home run each.
Phone Zone/Butera's/J.O.S.E. began the tourney by beating defending champs Dunkirk Lil Magils, 14-13, as Watts hit three home runs and drove in six runs. Trapani, Bill Lawson and Jenkins added home runs in the win.
Phone Zone/Butera's/J.O.S.E. then took care of Demolition, 24-0, with Watts hitting a home run and knocking in five runs. Jenkins and Bausch also delivered home runs.
A 15-14 win over Alphap's of Jamestown followed for Phone Zone/Butera's/J.O.S.E. with Lawson hitting a home run and Nick Martinelli adding a double.
Next, Phone Zone/Butera's/J.O.S.E. added a 16-6 verdict over THC from Dunkirk, 16-6, as Matve Jr. homered, Lawson and tripled and doubled, and Tyler Jones tripled among his three hits.
Adam Kubasik also played on the title team.
