The Jamestown Fire Department firefighters who were working on Labor Day were treated to breadsticks, salad and pasta.
On Monday, Olive Garden restaurant employees delivered lunch to the Jamestown Fire Department as part of their national delivery to honor America's public service workers. Rene Miller, Olive Garden culinary manager, said this is the 13th year Olive Garden restaurants nationally deliver food to public servants like firefighters, police officers and hospital employees.
Along with Miller, Charlotte Eckert and Iris Bonilla delivered the Italian dishes to the 11 firefighters who were scheduled to work at the Jamestown Fire Department station located at City Hall. Roger Singular, Jamestown Fire Department battalion chief, said it is not uncommon for the fire department to receive food from the community during holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Olive Garden Delivers For Jamestown Firefighters
''Sometimes citizens bring us in cookies, which is always greatly appreciated when that happens,'' he said.
Singular said during a shift, the firefighters will try to find time to eat a meal while working if they're not too busy answering emergency calls.
''Quite a few times we eat cold food, but that's how it goes,'' he said.
Miller said the Lakewood Olive Garden employees are always looking for ways to assist the community. She said restaurant officials give coupons to local schools to award students for quality classroom work.
''We want people who live here to rely on us. We want to be a part of the community,'' she said.
Miller said throughout the year, Olive Garden employees will make hospitality runs to different organizations to deliver meals. On Labor Day, more than 800 Olive Garden restaurants nationwide delivered and serve their local fire station, police department or hospital emergency room a special ''thank you'' lunch for their service to the community.
